Seed Cycling for Menopause Symptom Relief
Seed cycling throughout the month can be a great way to help bring balance to the female hormonal cycle.
Different seeds have different nutrient profiles that either affect estrogen or progesterone respectively throughout the menstrual cycle.
The Follicular phase or Days 1-14 are more estrogen dominant and can be balanced by consuming flax and pumpkin seeds. The second half of the cycle is the Luteal phase (Days 14-28) and is dominated by progesterone. Consuming more sesame and sunflower seeds in the luteal phase can help balance progesterone.
Seed cycling has been shown to clinically help balance younger women’s hormonal cycles, create more consistent timing of menstruation, reduce PMS symptoms and in older women help mitigate Peri-menopausal symptoms-hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings.
1 tablespoon each of ground flax and pumpkin seeds (2 total tablespoons) Days 1-14 and 1 tablespoon each of ground sesame and sunflower seeds on Days 14-28. If you have an inconsistent cycle to begin with you can go by the phases of the moon or days of the month (Days 1-28). Post menopausal women can also go by the moon cycle.
Always consult your doctor before starting a new health care regiment.
